Stewarding Technology
He who cultivates his land will have plenty of bread,
But he who follows worthless people and frivolous pursuits will have plenty of poverty.
Proverbs 28:19 (AMP)
Does anything come to mind as you read this? As I read this, I immediately think of social media and the way we follow people online. There is a difference in fruit that is produced from following after godly people and the fruit produced from following “worthless people.” Worthless sounds harsh, but the Bible doesn’t shy away from this word, so I suppose we shouldn’t either!
Do you ever take inventory of how you feel once you’ve consumed various online content? What people do you follow who prompt you to live with a closer walk with Jesus, and which people do you follow who distract you from that purpose?
What pursuits in your life are worthwhile and eternal? Which ones are frivolous pursuits, lacking value and purpose? What are you currently cultivating in your life, your work, and your family? In Parenting 0-18 With an Eternal Perspective: an Interview with Jessica Smartt (Episode 286), Jessica Smartt reminds us not to expect cucumbers to pop up when we’ve been planting tomato seeds! In the same way, we can’t expect our family to manage technology well and wisely if we aren’t intentional to sow wisdom in this area. We want to reap richness in relationships rather than poverty.
These questions above are meant to be conversational prompts so that you can process through the best way to wisely steward technology in your home, for you and your family.
